This encouraged Reynaers to invest in the development of their latest unique service offering: an interactive website that enables multi-party collaboration on architectural and building design inspiration.
The huge need for inspiration when designing or renovating buildings is clearly not currently being addressed by the market and Reynaers believes that it has the expertise to fill this gap. The Internet has become a major source of inspiration through images and pictures that can enhance innovative thinking; increasingly gaining popularity as a research tool over traditional print media.
The website has been designed to harness the strengths of all its intended users on one platform, thereby substantially enhancing the chances of inspirational innovation and design breakthroughs to materialise. Here the dreams and ambitions of end-users will be encouraged to blend with the design expertise and artistic qualities of architects and the superior product knowledge of Reynaers’ specialists – a triangle of inspiration in which all parties can only win.
The main reason for the development of this new tool, however, was to inspire both architects and builders to understand and value the endless design capabilities of aluminium and the Reynaers range of aluminium solutions, all of which are showcased on the site. Added to this is the desire to significantly enhance communication between Reynaers, architects and builders.
The Dynamics of the Inspiration Site
The Inspiration Site guides users through a user-friendly process that allows them to create and share mood boards with others through a few simple steps. The created references are presented in an attractive and innovative way in flash through a clever animated selection process.
After registering on the site and logging in, the user is invited to build his own range of mood boards. A mood board is a collage of projects with pictures, descriptions, product samples and colours in a composition determined by selections made by the creator of the board.
It starts with the selection of a preferred lifestyle that is represented by a world-known city. If you choose for ‘environmental’ references (Copenhagen), you are directed to an overview page that shows all projects that qualify under sustainable solution. If you are however looking for a specific building style, the site offers you the choice between avant-garde (Tokyo), contemporary (Montreal) or traditional (London), all of which offer a rich and diverse range of inspirational aluminium applications. This lays the foundation for the remainder of the process. Once you have made your choice in lifestyle, a next step allows you to choose from different product groups.

After selecting a reference from the mix between both projects and private houses, the Inspiration Site guides the user to the project detail fiche where multiple images and other useful information such as the project details (architect, fabricator, used systems, colours etc.) and some background information on inspirational aluminium solutions in the form of articles can be transferred to the mood board. Related projects in terms of style and systems will also be shared with users.
Once the mood board has been completed, it is ready for sharing with other role players in the collaborative process. This is done directly online. Architects can make suggestions on building styles to clients and end-users can share their design ideas with friends and family.
