Patients deserve the best
New hospital wing enhances care
To meet the increasing need for more space and provide higher quality services, the Saint-Lucas academic hospital recently built a new wing. It includes two floors for the medical laboratories, a building for long-stay chronic patients, and an extension for various medical-technical services. The medical laboratories are housed underground and on the ground floor, and are connected with the clinics and faculty buildings by two light footbridges. To enlarge the glazed surface and gain as much natural light as possible, there are no windowsills.
Opposite is the ward for chronic and palliative patients; a brick building with extended and corner windows that create a more residential appearance. The medical-technical services, along with new consultation rooms, are in 3 storeys that have been added to an existing building. To limit the weight, a completely glazed skeleton was chosen, with accompanying blinds.
