The Old meets the New
The fusion of 19th and 21st century architectures
When plans were finalised to extend this 19th century town hall, it was decided to retain the original building for specific functions, such as marriages and other official ceremonies, while creating a more modern environment, with contemporary architecture, for the administrative functions.
Visitors enter the new building on the south façade, guided by the stone wall which is in the same style as the walls of the existing building. The atrium is fully glazed, is protected by a brise-soleil in wood, and is the link between the old and the new.
A sliding door allows the administrative area to be closed, while leaving the other side of the building open for ceremonies and festivities.
The east façade displays large wooden panels, divided in proportion to the existing windows. The windows are protected by adjustable blinds that ensure excellent protection from the sun and, when closed, a unity in the appearance of the façade.
