Lasting Impression
Façade literally puts inhabitants in town hall square
The new town hall square in Veghel is a friendly, welcoming area where citizens can meet the town authorities, pose their questions and seek information on the town’s services in a totally open environment. An artist has captured this concept by putting a screen print on the glass façade on the south side of the town hall square. He chose the branches of a beech tree to symbolize the interconnections between the town and its inhabitants, with 562 local surnames written on its branches. With these names the community is literally brought into the town’s vision and has been given a prominent place in the town hall.
The 188 glass plates are screen printed in white, annealed, hardened, converted into insulating glass and arranged on the façade as a puzzle. The total size of the façade is 38 metres wide and 6 metres high, thus creating a permanent image of the importance of Veghel’s inhabitants in the local community.
